Residential Extension London
This Residential Extension in London is a project that reimagines a Victorian family home in South London for contemporary living. Designed in collaboration with Plus Rooms, this project balances heritage, modern architecture, sustainability, and family-focused design to deliver a light-filled, adaptable home that meets the demands of modern urban life.
Located on a residential street characterised by period housing, the project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural interventions can unlock space, improve energy performance, and enhance everyday living without compromising the character of the original building.

Architectural Vision and Design Approach
The architectural concept for the residential extension focused on creating a calm, functional backdrop for family life. Rather than overcomplicating the form, the extension adopts a clean architectural vision that complements the existing Victorian structure while clearly expressing a modern intervention.
Careful massing ensures the extension sits comfortably within the urban context, respecting neighbouring properties and planning constraints. Internally, the layout has been reconfigured to improve circulation and visual connections between spaces.
This approach reflects a broader trend in London residential architecture.

Light, Space and Flow
One of the defining features of the project is its emphasis on natural light. Large glazed openings, rooflights draw daylight deep into the space, transforming previously dark areas of the house.
The rear extension opens fully onto the garden, blurring the boundary between inside and outside. This connection enhances the sense of space and supports flexible family living — from everyday use to entertaining.
Structure, open layouts, and visual continuity ensure the home feels both generous and calm, despite its urban footprint.

Planning Strategy and Collaboration
Delivering the Ivydale Road project required a clear planning strategy and close collaboration between TAOB, Plus Rooms and the client.
The design responds sensitively to local planning policies while achieving a contemporary architectural outcome. Early-stage coordination ensured a smooth process from concept to delivery.
